At the relatively young age of 21, John Dobbs formed the company in 1961 to provide a personalised delivery service for local manufacturers, along with a domestic removal service, in Eastbourne, East Sussex. Starting with just a Morris Commercial 15cwt vehicle, the company’s reputation for service quality and reliability quickly spread, leading to an expansion of the fleet and the opening of a modest warehouse to provide storage services.
1971 marked a significant milestone for the business as it became a limited company, Dobbs of Eastbourne (Transport) Ltd. Throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s the client base continued to grow, along with the size of the fleet, including an early and forward-thinking transition in the early 1970’s to using articulated vehicles.
In 1990, the company relocated to larger and more modern premises within the town, providing the platform for further expansion of the warehouse storage and commercial removal services. In May 1998 Stephen Morgan merged the company with Eurohaul, a local haulier specialising in European transport services that neatly complimented Dobbs domestic service offering. The enlarged business was re-branded as Dobbs Logistics Ltd.
The early 2000s saw Dobbs Logistics become a pallet network member covering the Eastbourne area, initially for TPN, and then more recently for Pallet-Track, with the company’s widely recognised reputation for service quality and reliability making it a highly prized target for pallet network operators.
2006 saw Dobbs Logistics acquire prime industrial land in Hailsham, East Sussex on which it constructed a purpose-built warehouse along with high-spec offices, reflecting the company's long-term commitment to growth through quality service. Lynton Manser and Kevin Manser were also appointed as Directors in March 2019.
